I graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art with a BFA in Illustration and a minor in Creative Writing. My love for art and writing developed simultaneously since I first learned my A B C's.
I've worked as a Christmas Ornament Line Designer at American Greetings for 10 1/2 years, and am currently a freelance illustrator and caricaturist. Recent and current illustration clients include Hasbro, Learning Horizons, and Northern Speech Services, Inc.
I am also currently launching a series of Women's Retreats which will be merging philosophies from both The Artist's Way and ARTbundance™ Coaching. I've just received my ARTbundance™ Coach certification this year (2009) from Artella, and am excited about this new journey for me.
I invite you to look around my website to learn more about me and my interests... and please feel free to leave a comment on my guest book page.
I received my ARTbundance™ Coach certification in November, 2009 from Artella, studying directly from Marney Makridakis, founder of Artella.
An ARTbundance™ Coach is a unique hybrid of inspiring coach, creativity teacher, workshop leader, and spiritual guide. This unique training allows me to greatly assist clients in accessing and using their creativity in powerful ways to catalyze greater awareness, joy, prosperity, and meaning in life.
I started doing Doggie Caricatures when I was at the Hessler Street Fair my first year with my caricature stand and someone wanted a caricature of him with his dog. I thought, "why not?" after all, dogs are people too, right? I realized then that caricatures can be used to bring out personalities of dogs as well as humans. I've done doggie caricatures to raise funds for the local animal shelter during American Greetings's "Bring Your Dog to Work Day," three years in a row while I was employed there, and have recently set up my first Doggie Caricature stand at the Cleveland IX Center for the Crown Classic dog show (Dec.11-14, 2008).
If you would like a doggie sketch, contact me and I can have one done quickly for you. I can do other animals, of course, as well: cats, horses, you name it.
For black & white sketches: $20 head & shoulders, $30 full body with/without situation.
For color sketches: $30 head & shoulders, $40 full body with/without situation.

I have been doing caricatures professionally since summer of 1992. I started working for Kaman's Art Shoppes at Carowinds, in Charlotte, NC. Every summer during my college years, this was my job. It was wonderful.
When I finally graduated in 1996, I started working at Geauga Lake for the first summer, and then worked at a mall kiosk for about four months. That was the last time I worked for someone else doing caricatures.
Ever since I've done various caricature work -- nothing solid to live on, just a speckling of extra income. I don't do it just for the money. The face has always been my favorite subject matter. Every person is a new story, and the face is where I look to find their soul -- their inner beauty and character. Every person is a masterpiece, crafted by life experience.
I have set up my own stand at various local fairs and festivals annually:
In Cleveland, Ohio: The Hessler Street Fair, two different church festivals, and the American Greetings Holiday Art Show.
In Monroe, North Carolina: The Blooming Arts Festival.
My stand used to be called "Carrick-a-Tures" before I married, making fun use of my maiden name, Carrick.
I have also quite a client list, including The Cleveland Cavaliers (I drew for their Christmas party one year), The Free Clinic (for charity), Westfield Shopping Center (Southpark Mall's annual Breakfasts w/ Santa and Easter Bunny), as well as several private parties I've done for kids and adults.
