Dear Wendy (fellow DBer),
I'm always looking for websites belonging to kindred souls. Love your artwork and hope to follow. Your Holy Water Paintings are special and your caricatures & graphic designs are awesome. It's so inspiring to see that you use your talents and gifts to honor God's majesty. God bless you and your gift.

Dear Carolyn:
Thanks very much for leaving the comment!
Your daughter sounds just as focused as I was when I went into college. I went against all advice from my guidance counselors and decided to go straight into art school instead of a regular college. Because of this, I got a GREAT education in art, but not so great in writing. Luckily the school I went to was linked to CASE Western Reserve where I was able to get some one-on-one mentoring (with credit) for my writing (that's the ONLY way I was able to get enough credits to get my minor in Creative Writing). However, I learned the MOST on how to write AFTER college, taking SEVERAL local community creative writing workshops in my evening hours. It was a GREAT class that focused on us reading our work aloud and then critiquing each other's work (VERY similar, actually, to how my art classes were done in college).
As far as advice for your daughter, I think it would be idea for her to find an Art School that also has a good creative writing/literature program. Maybe check out this site to help you find the perfect school: http://www.artschools.com/
Wish I could speak to your daughter - I totally love encouraging others who want to pursue art as a career. I would also encourage your daughter to play around at art school. Even though she is focused, try other things (other mediums/techniques). Art school is a great place to explore yourself as an artist. I was actually TOO focused and played it SAFE. I was afraid to try different mediums that were unfamiliar to me, and got discouraged when I didn't feel I was doing as well as I wanted. SO I played it safe in college, and therefore did not grow much as an artist in college (too worried about grades, without allowing myself to PLAY enough - with other art styles and mediums, I mean).
And one more thing regarding her professional future -- I HIGHLY recommend her (at school) also taking classes and getting well experienced with Graphic Design and/or web design. VERY important to those entering the art world. THAT is where the jobs are. She doesn't need to let go of illustration - but maybe she could have a SECOND minor in web design or graphic design (in addition t the creative writing) - this would be useful to her in the professional commercial art world after college!

Hi wendy,
My daughter is looking into a BFA in Illustration with a minor in Creative Writing as well. I plugged that into google and your site came up. Neat stuff you have. Would you have any advice to give a HS senior in college searching or degree majoring?

thanks and all the best to you

Wendy,
I just wanted to thank you again for the great job you did on my caricatures. When I contacted you and sent you photos of my parents and also of my nephew and his best friend, I had an image in mind how they would come out. I can honestly say that you FAR exceeded my expectations. When I asked if you could recreate "American Gothic" using my parents for their 50th Anniversary (since they were farmers), and I asked you to do a "Cleveland Rocks" theme for my nephew and his best friend for when they come to visit, I had no idea how great they would turn out. Your attention to detail, your creativity and professionalism is what sets you apart from amusement park artists. I want to thank you for the special gifts that I can give to my parents and the two boys. Please let me know if I can ever be a reference for your work.

Kudos to you for your amazing talent! Your recent group caricature for my mother in law's birthday (all done through email) was AWESOME and AMAZING! I still can't believe how fast you got that done with all of that detail. Thank you for your patience with my many emails! Can't wait to get another one done for my parents' anniversary!
